Hey friends,

Well, we’re here together again!

The short version is that I wasn’t sure I’d ever return to this teaching and community space. But I left the door open and waited to see how things felt as I took a much needed break.

Without missing a week, I hosted the Photo Business Help podcast for over five years and 430+ episodes. It was fun, took a lot of consistency and dedication to pull off, and ended up reaching a lot of folks around the world.

But I didn’t want to do it anymore.

What happened?

I don’t know. It just didn’t feel good anymore.

One thing you’ll hear from me in this space is to always listen to your whisper, that little voice that lets you know when something is a hell yes! or a no way.

The thing is, those “no” moments are often very quiet at first.

As I mentioned above, I waited to see how things felt. This is one of those eerily accurate and often counterintuitive process to go through. It’s not something they teach in business school, and it’s certainly isn’t part of western culture’s conditioning to make and do and go and build and create and be productive.

When you’re running a business or completing a project, it can be really challenging to just…wait.

But I knew I needed the space. I was excited about moving over to Substack, but something still felt a little off.

I believe—as you’ll come to find out—that it’s incredibly important to the soul of your business to listen to that feeling. You don’t need to know the answer…yet.

It’s enough to acknowledge that something isn’t sitting right. Or that something might need to evolve or fall away or change completely.

And it’s all OKAY.

So, here we are again. I’ve found a path forward that I’m really excited about. It involves sharing with all of you the lessons that have most helped me. I’ll be adding new things, adding new perspectives to things I’ve shared before, and asking for your participation (in the chat) to grow a community here that can learn from, and support each other.

Welcome back. I’m really glad you’re here.

Feeling a little off too?

Ever feel like everyone is ahead of you? Like no matter how much work you put in, there’s always someone with better photos, a bigger following, or a more successful business?

I get it.

The photo industry is crowded. There are thousands of photographers entering the market every year. And when you spend too much time watching what they are doing, you start to feel like there’s no room left for you.

That’s why I started Photo Business Help with this message:

Blinders On, Heart Open.

Blinders On: Stop obsessing over what everyone else is doing.

Heart Open: Stay open to possibilities, new connections, and creative flow.

You’ll hear me talk a lot about reflection and presence and knowing why you’re doing the things you’re doing.

Here’s a checklist from one of my first coaching workshops waaaay back in 2014. And I think it still holds up…it’s certainly helped me.
